Just in time for Halloween, Google brings us Frightgeist. This brilliant idea is powered by Google Trends, which shows us how often a search term is entered into their search engine over a particular time period, and how it performs by location.

This nifty little tool means you can glean an understanding around what your customers or people in the local area are interested in during that day/time period. You can also check trends by topic, such as business or entertainment.

Your business can use this to its advantage when generating content to ensure you’re on-trend, or even ahead of the curve!

Now, back to Halloween… The only drawback of Frightgeist for those of us in the UK is that is only shows the trending costumes for the US. However due to the sheer size of the States, and its far reaching influence, we imagine the UK results would be largely similar.

Plus, we all knew we wanted to be Harley Quinn from the second we saw those snaps of the Suicide Squad.

The Top 10 Trending Costumes:

  1. Harley Quinn
  2. Star Wars
  3. Superhero
  4. Pirate
  5. Batman
  6. Minnie Mouse
  7. Witch
  8. Minion
  9. Joker
  10. Wonder Woman

Luckily enough, this site gives you the top 504 costume searches to double check your “Original Idea” – if it’s not on Google’s list then you will definitely have one great ice breaker for your party.

If your idea is higher up on this list, you can click on your idea and see how it has being trending over time, how popular it is within its category (e.g. Fantasy Characters), as well as a costume generator for something similar but far less popular.

So get inspired and have a Happy Halloween Parachuters!
