So here in the UK we’ve already had an influx of Christmas advertising hitting our screen, but across the pond there is an important celebration that comes before Christmas. Thanksgiving. As us Brits don’t tend to celebrate it, we miss out on the Thanksgiving advertisements and have to deal with the Christmas ones for far longer than we should. So to celebrate the turkeytastic holiday, we take a look at some of the great adverts there has been over the years.
This Coke advert shows us one of the very few things we probably associate with Thanksgiving, the Macy’s Parade. The concept of blown up characters from kids and adult animation shows fighting over a bottle of Coca Cola is something everyone will enjoy.
What better advertisement for Macy’s than a combination of the biggest parade and one of the biggest celebrities. Robert de Niro is effortlessly funny and helps convey the lighter side of the holidays, who gets to be the Pilgrim and who is stuck being the turkey?
Publix is a supermarket chain in the US, who always seem to be on top form when it comes to Thanksgiving adverts. While adverts for this holiday can sometimes be uncommon with companies saving themselves for a big Christmas advert, Publix takes advantage of this every year and provides some heart wrenching adverts that rival the more emotive Christmas adverts.
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us here at Parachute!
